Your Safety

Your safety is important to us

Only people who log in to the AreYouDancing website will be able to view details of other members. This information will be restricted to name, town, county, country, dance styles, description and photo (if provided).

If you request/accept someone as a “friend” you will also be able to see which events he/she is attending. Both parties have to agree to this request before the “friendship” is activated.

Please use common sense when using this website, and do not accept someone as your friend unless you are sure you can identify them. You may prefer to tell your friends before sending a message asking to add them to your list of friends.

Do not disclose any personal information in your description that could identify you to a stranger, such as telephone number, house name, address, family names, etc. If you upload a photograph to your personal profile, please make sure the photograph does not identify you, or where you live (for instance by showing a house name or car registration number).

Please keep your password safe, and do not divulge it to anyone. Avoid using obvious choices for passwords such as family, pet or other names. Please change your password regularly. We would recommend that you do not use high security passwords, such as those you use for banking.

Before arranging to meet someone for the first time, please find out as much as possible about each other. In a small community such as the dance world it is likely that you will have mutual friends, have attended similar events, and so on. You will then be able to ask detailed questions such as “What did you think of a particular teacher”, or “Can you remember any moves taught in a particular class”. Always meet for the first time in a public place.

Most people are honest. However, please use your own common sense and the above guidelines to avoid unwelcome attention, and even danger, from the few who may wish to cause you harm.
