About Hogsmill Square Dance Club

Hogsmill SDC started in October 2011 and now has over a hundred active dancers. Many of whom are already folk, tap, ballroom or line dancers who are ready for a new challenge, less skipping and more brain exercise.

Square dancing involves teamwork - 8 people to make up a square and the Caller leads the dancers through the movements making sure everybody understands.

The great thing is that there are no long dance routines to learn – just the individual moves. The more moves you learn the more interesting it gets and the more fun everyone has - and of course the greatest fun is had when things go a bit wrong!

You needn’t worry about having two left feet – anybody can Square Dance as the movements are very simple and rhythmical! Civil engineers, plumbers, mathematicians, teachers particularly find they enjoy this style of dancing as they appreciate the variety of formations and patterns.

Square dancing is great fun for couples, singles and families and provides an interactive social evening. It combines physical and mental stimulation for people of all ages and provides a “well being” effect as you join in with other people and make new friends.

Most people are happy just to attend the classes with different music every week but there is a structure to move on if you wish to learn more and visit other clubs and countries.

All the moves are easy to learn with everybody helping each other along the way – it is often called fun and friendship set to music.
