Price: £30 whole day including Balboa Beckons 3-6, £10 (£7 unwaged) for dance only

Time: 12-1 and 2-3 SlowBal workshop, 3-6 Balboa Beckons balboa social dance with live band

SlowBal or Slow Balboa is fabulously stylish and is danced to slow swing music. It bears a strong relationship to balboa, but is a distinct dance which we find delightful and think you will too. Learn (or revisit!) the basics of SlowBal: for complete beginners as well as those with some experience of SlowBal.

The workshop will be taught by Lynn Maslen who is well known on the UK balboa scene. She runs BalboaMondays in Reading as well as being one of our regular DJs at Balboa Beckons and teaches Balboa and Slow Balboa workshops all over the UK, including the Sweet Swing Edinburgh Slow Balboa Weekender. She has competed and reached the finals at both National and International events including the European Swing Dance Championships, the Thames Valley Balboa Festival (where she won the Jack and Jill competition in 2014 and 2017), and the Balboa Jack and Jill competition at the Birmingham Swing Festival 2016.

Oxford Balboa and DanceBalboa will jointly be running a SlowBal weekend in Oxford on 13-15 October 2023 taught by the world-renowned Mickey Fortanasce (USA) and Anna-Maria Bernhard (Germany). This weekend is for those who know the basics of SlowBal so Lynn's workshop is to help prepare dancers - we will be running more SlowBal classes and workshops before October.
